What Makes One A Christian?
Through an examination of Romans 3:23 and Romans 6:23 we learn that all men (and women) who have reached an age in which they are accountable for their actions is in need of salvation.
In John 3:16 we learn that God had a plan which included sending His Son to deliver salvation. Believing that Jesus is the Savior is the beginning of Faith. Looking at James 2:19 we learn that faith all by itself is not sufficient to receive salvation, because even demons believe.
In Matthew 28:18-20 we learn that Jesus had been given the authority to command His apostles to "make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" then He says "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you;". From these verses we learn that baptism is necessary for salvation but it also requires obedience ... keeping His commandments (John 14:15).
